What Type Of Office Phone Line Installation Do You Need?

By Tony Dunphy

Time is money when you own a business, and that's true if you need to install a new phone line, too. How long will it take? You can have an Australian phone line installed for your business in as little as a few days, depending on the type you need. Following is a discussion of each type of phone line installation and the time each will take.

Phone lines ISDN 2

This is the most common of phone line installations, digital. It uses paired channels, meaning that phone lines are installed in multiples of two. It'll take between 10 and 15 working days to do installation, and you can add DID ranges or Line Hunt if you wish. For more information, take a look here.

ISDN 10/20/30 lines

For medium to large size businesses, 10/20/30 IDSN phone lines are a good choice. They use a multichannel method, and use 10, 20, or 30 lines in each collection of lines; installation is a little more complicated and therefore takes between 20-25 working days to complete. PSTN phone lines

SMEs use these phone lines, which are standard Australian installation setups. Also called POTs or "Plain Old Telephone Service" lines, you can add Line Hunt capability or ADSL if you wish. You won't have much wait time for installation, as installation happens in between 3 and 10 business days.

Line Hunt installation

Line Hunt capabilities give you the option to automatically distribute phone calls from one phone number to several lines. As someone calls in, the phone will continue to ring through to each associated phone line until it's picked up. Only if all phone lines are busy will callers hear a busy signal. You can add Line Hunt capabilities right away with a new number, or you can add it later as needed.

PBX, Hosted

If you have ADSL installed, you can have PBX hosted lines operational almost instantaneously. It takes a little bit to get equipment, but installation is easy thereafter. You should be up and running in between 3 to 8 business days.

IDSN Multiline

Multiline IDSN is somewhat the same as IDSN 10/20/30, but simpler. You can start with just a few lines (10 minimum), and then add single lines as needed instead of groups of 10, as you must with IDSN 10/20/30. Wait times for installation are about 20 to 40 working days.
